Further Poker Backlash from South Carolina

South Carolina authorities recently charged fourteen people with participation in illegal gambling activities. In Greenville County deputies dealt out 14 citations at an illegal poker game this past Wednesday, under the state's unlawful betting law (USA Poker Rooms). Investigators assigned to the case were reported that they commenced an investigation on the case after receiving a tip that poker games were taking place.

Investigators also said that the person who tipped them, name with held from the report, informed them that the online poker games typically took place every Tuesday and Saturday nights. The names of the poker game operators have not been disclosed at this time.

Before launching the raid, the authorities watched the game take place for about an hour. Deputies said they watched as players walked up to the door of a building on Wade Hampton Boulevard and were buzzed inside. The building also operates as a fireworks company as well as a number of other businesses. When deputies went inside, they broke into a game of "Texas Hold ‘Em". During the operation, police seized about $4,000 cash, and other poker paraphernalia.

The poker players, residents of Greer, Greenville as well as Simpsonville, are all expected to appear in court in response to the alleged violation of the local law. Hearing dates have either not been set, or disclosed at the time of the report.
