New law New Revenue for the State

In the United States, Florida has new state figures for the 18 regulated poker rooms, and the state representatives are impressed. In a months time, the rooms increased revenue by nearly 60% between June 2007 and July 2007, reaching a record of 7.7 million USD. Under a recently passed and enforced law, Florida's poker rooms are permitted to increase the betting limits up to 5 dollars as well as open up to 7 days a week, even when there are no live races. This increased availability has obviously had an impact for both the poker rooms and the state.

The finding however do show a disparaging note. Despite the influx of poker revenues at all of the poker rooms across the state, the breakdown showed the racetrack casinos facilities in Broward County where there are 3, are only a small percentage of the over all numbers. Their profits were higher in the slot machine gaming, than in poker room. Local slots generated nearly 18 million in revenue for the month of July.

Taxation experts in Florida have estimated the total revenue from the new law to generate an additional 3 million USD for the state. The local poker room tax of 10% recently enacted was approved in April this year by the Florida house and Senate. The new poker room law was began on July 1st, after Governor Charlie Crist approved the measure in June. Already the state is seeing the revenue potential from regulation.
