University at Buffalo Backs Will Not Offer Casino Classes

The University at Buffalo, New York, has backed out of its partnership with Gatlin Educational Services. The University was supposed to be offering online career training in us casino gaming and was going to use the GES to help launch and run the program. The casino training was to be provided and hosted by Johnny Chan.

The University changed its decision to partner with the company because of a disagreement between the school's mission and the course substance. The curriculum would have contained courses pertaining to casino dealers. The Gatlin Educational Services announced the partnership on October 8th and the school canceled to agreement the next day.

The Universities Assistant Vice President for News Services and Periodicals provided a written statement to Buffalo's Business First Newspaper : "Eager to respond to marketplace demands and provide courses and training for members of the community, Millard Fillmore College at the University at Buffalo recently scheduled online courses to prepare individuals for jobs in the gaming industry," Page said. "When this decision was brought to the attention of the university's academic leadership, it was decided that the courses would not be in line with the mission of UB and they have been canceled."

Although the course has been cancelled at the University of Buffalo, the Johnny Chan Academy learning courses are still available at other places. Buffalo has a Casino Career Training Center where classes are available and a deal has also been announced with the College of Southern Idaho. With the popularity of poker becoming more popular on college campuses around the United States, I would not be surprised if more colleges began offering the online courses in the near future.
