China Online Gambling Raid

As reported in a leading newspaper, after local police raided a residential address, 20 people were arrested along with the female operator for illegal online gambling. After witnessing a large number of people coming and going from the location, police moved in to find 20 men involved in online gambling that had been operated by He Cui. Cui, a middle-aged woman confessed to luring over 100 gamblers to her home in the City's Zhabei District, where she was operating an organized online soccer gambling operation.

Most of the gamblers were said to have been unemplyoyed men that were either attracted by greed or plain old curiosity. Cui assisted these men in betting on an unidentified website, then she either collected their money owed or paid out money in winnings once a week, of course earning a commission for her services.

Police became suspicious back in September of this illegal operation that is said to have started in February earlier this year. Allegedly Cui has earned an amount of $2,632 in commission over this eight month period with a total amount that was gambled being $533,817.

With the number of arrests on the climb from these types of operations, officials are sure to stay on guard in the future.
