LadBroke Gambling Ads Receive Complaints

Even though Ladbrokes first gambling advertisement that aired on UK television seemed to have earned many applauds by their earned fans along with winning publicity from the press, they have also gained a problem. ASA, Advertising Standards Authority has received complaints about the advertisement, which alledges the advertisement targets young males and more specifically, "male bravado and peer pressure."

According to Olivia Campbell, a spokesperson of ASA, says even though it was a small number of complaints, that totaled 4, they were still questionable enough to be followed up with an investigation. It is expected that the investigation will likely last up to 2 months.

Campbell said, "We don't need to reach a specific number of complaints. If we receive just one complaint and there is an obvious breach of the code we will investigate it. If a complaint is just motive, and the advert is within the guidelines, we won't."

The ads featured former football personalities that are very popular and are feared to be much more likely to be imitated by the audience it seems to target, also some complaints that were raised about the advertisements stated the ads were a "clear encouragement to gamble" and "irresponsible, and particularly appealed to young men."
