October 10th - 888.com First Charity Day

888. com is celebrating their 10th birthday this year and as a part of the celebration they are donating $100,000 to charity and allowing their players the chance to do the same. The first charity day will be held on October 10th, 2007. There will be two charity organizations that can be donated to through 888. Players can donate a percentage of their winnings to the charities on the site and the employees will also be hosting special activities to showcase the charity partners.

One of the charity organizations is Earth Action. It is an organization that stresses the importance of the environment and they are working to make the government and or corporations take stronger actions against global problems. Some of the issues that they will be dealing with over the next 3 years are: Preventing dangerous climate change and promote renewable energy, Build a more democratic and effective UN to help keep the peace, defend human rights, protect the global environment and meet the needs of the world's poorest citizens, Control the global AIDS epidemic and many more.

The other organization that can be donated to is World for World. It is an organization that brings public awareness to Global Development issues. Their website states that they are there to support the activities of United Nations agenda for Global Development in 21st Century, in order to achieve the implementation of the Eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by the United Nations, and agreed to by all the world's countries and all the world's leading development institutions; which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015, to meet the needs of the world's poorest, and to straighten Capacity to Enhance Contributions to Human Security and Local Sustainable Developments in Developing Countries.

On October 10th any player can play their favorite game or games and when they win they can donate some or all of their winnings if they choose to do so. If a player cannot decide which charity to donate to the donation can be split in half and sent to both charities. 888's Marketing Director, Matt Robinson, said "This is the first time we have run a Global charity day and we're delighted we can raise money for such important causes.
