Annie Duke In Spotlight Over U.S. Gambling Ban
"The reality is it is very hard for a child to lose money gambling online - one needs to either have a credit card or a checking account to do so," stressed Duke. "I monitor my children's online activity, and frankly, that is my job, not my government's."
But the complaint goes far beyond just children being at risk to gamble, but addiction. Tom McClusky, from the Family Research Council, stated that families who have problem gamblers in the home face a lot of problems such as financial, emotional, and physical issues.
And while that is may be the issue in some cases, Aristotle spokesman Michael Colipy, has talked about a self-exclusion program that Aristotle has created. This would give people the chance to place their name on a list and set a blocking mechanism in place, which could help curb addiction.
Considering McClusky's viewpoint on protecting families who have problem gamblers, Annie Duke questioned then how far we should really go. "The government is going to have to ban nearly every activity," Duke stated. "Shopping, day trading, sex, chocolate, even drinking water - these and myriad other activities...have been linked to harmful compulsions."
And Duke may be right on with that statement as that seems to be the statement which makes clear the incredible and overprotecting ban can lead to something much more out of control. Either you allow the freedom to make our own decisions or you limit and take away all. Why allow some things that children can be exposed to on the net and that people can get addicted to...but take away others?
