France Bows To Pressure In Online Gambling
They are agreeing to a partial change in their state run betting monopolies, which would allow companies such as Sportingbet, an online bookmaker that is London listed, a foothold in their country.
It is expected that details will come out this month when a meeting between the Budget Minister Eric when he meets with the International Market Commissioner, Charlie McCreevy.
It is felt that some of the turn around with the French and their monopoly is because of some of the recent events with the United States and their policies that are now causing them problems with the European Union.
They say the government is not hostile, and this opening of online sports betting is a real change and could help to open up other forms of online gambling in the future. As they fear they could have similar problems as the United States is having with several European Countries, along with other court battles, like the one with the iMEGA group.
