Lobbyist for the American Gaming Association
Political Lobbyist are required to divulge information for actions taken or services rendered that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches. Activity must be registered with Congress within 45 days of being hired or engaging in lobbying, according to US federal Law.
This disclosure law was enacted in 1995 and provides industry observers with insights to the special interests of influential groups.
The American Gaming Association, are affiliated with the land casino industry. Members of the AGA comprised of organizations such as Harrah's Entertainment Inc., Bally Technologies Inc. and MGM Mirage and are among the more than 50 companies and groups that share membership of the association, according to AP reports.
The Associated Press reported that the AGA paid Fierce, Isakowitz & Blalock $100 000 in the first half of 2007 to lobby the federal government. The firm lobbied Congress on online gambling issues, but did not reveal details or objective of the lobbying. In addition to lawmakers, the firm apparently lobbied the Treasury Department and the White House.
Recently, the AGA adopted a public position on Internet gambling calling for a thorough study of the industry, with a scrutinizing focus advances in technology which make the exclusion of underage or problem gamblers more effective.
Aleix Jarvis, former legislative director for Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. were among those registered to lobby for the trade group.
