Online Gambling U.S. Debate
This week saw testimony from each side of online gambling in front of the House Judiciary Committee and began with one of the first speakers Chairman John Conyers Jr. stating that gambling is evil.
Several points were made that poker pro Annie Duke relayed to the panel such as online gamblers are responsible adults who are capable of deciding if they should gamble or not. Along with the fact that there is the technology to make certain that underage players are kept from online gambling.
As both sides of online gambling were heard this also brought out those who feel that gambling is a social evil and how it is morally wrong to gamble.
The fact that the United States is in violation of trade agreements over online gambling was also brought up during this hearing. Along with the one question that was slightly mentioned of whether online gambling is actually under federal jurisdiction or if it should be under state jurisdiction; this of course has not been answered to the satisfaction of those at the hearing.
