Players Take Advantage of Glitch on Befair Poker Website
A few players enjoying a game of poker on the Betfair website recently got a surprise when they all received money they were not supposed to get. Six players were playing poker when during one hand, all the players went all in. when the hand was over the 1st place player got the normal amount of prize money and the 2nd place player received their money, but then 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th also got the 2nd place prize amount.
The players saw an opportunity and quickly recreated the same scenario. They soon found out that in the same situation the same result would occur. The players then moved on to the higher stakes tables and recreated the same situation, earning themselves larger payouts. It took a few hours for the Betfair system to correct the fault.
Betfair has now told the players, there are around 20 of them, to repay their winnings. The amount won is over £100,000. Betfair emailed the players and the email stated that the games: "were incorrectly set up to pay everyone involved in certain all-in situations and this was exploited by you and others to generate substantial returns in a short space of time. As I'm sure you can understand, the winnings received as a result of this exploitation must be returned."
