Swedish Board Cracking Down On Gambling Operators
The information requested includes individual job descriptions, company trademark usage, and more. This only the first company to be examined by the Swedish Gaming Board, according to their legal advisor, Hakan Hallstedt, stating there will soon be more to come.
Hallstedt reportedly told 24h Poker, "Many gaming companies are listed in Sweden and have their employees here. None of them are permitted to work with gaming related tasks in Sweden, as this is illegal, yet most of their revenue comes from gaming."
A comprehensive investigation by the Swedish Gaming Board is pending to uncover the location of gaming-related companies in the country. The provision of gaming services is without proper licensing is illegal in Sweden, resulting in fines and up to 2-years in prison.
In a related story, the Swedish government has been accused of lacking sensitivity to illegal publications of gambling correlated advertisements. According to a local newspaper, Hallstedt claimed that without any action taken by enforcement agencies, the Swedish Gaming Board saw it "hardly worthwhile" to report such cases.
