UK CEO Comments On UIGEA
Joe Saumarez-Smith the CEO of Sports Gaming has written about his thoughts on the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and has used the title "Internet Gambling Enforcement Act Should Be Scrapped". This was written for the Bloomberg news site, his opinion while well thought out was brutally honest when he stated that Americans are still playing at online sites.
He wrote about the fact that many Americans may not be aware that there is a law banning online gambling due to the fact that the UIGEA was placed on an amendment to increase port security. He also feels there may be more Americans at online sites now than there was before the UIGEA was passed.
Sausmarez-Smith feels that the entire situation is a mess and just as the United States Government learned with Prohibition some bans will not work and are not realistic, just as this one is not going to work. He also commented that he does not feel that some of the legislators learned this in history class and while Prohibition was across the United States this ban only bans certain types of gambling such as online poker.
The end thought is that this ban will not work; players are going to find a way to play online and the faster the UIGEA is ended the better.
