Will Norway Be Next To Ban Online Poker

Just a few weeks ago one resident of Norway Annette Obrestad made news as the youngest winner of one of the largest poker tournaments in Europe, and now word from the Gaming Intelligence Group have said that the culture minister Trond Giske of Norway is considering banning online poker in their country.

This Norwegian culture minister has made it clear more than once that he is against online poker and the problems it can bring with it, such as problem gamblers. This is the same man who tried to have all slot machines banned in Norway, and they are now government run and do not have the skill needed they once did.

Nothing has come in to law yet however, culture mister Giske has stated prior that this new law would be along the line of the United States UIGEA law of 2006.

While this is his view there are other things he and others in power must also consider, depending on what laws would be put in place they could find themselves up against some countries of the European Union, while they are not a full member of the European Union, the UK and the Isle of Man would be two countries that could bring strong opposition.

Norway has already put into place a law that makes online gambling illegal, so this new law it only makes sense that it should be drafted and enacted just as the UIGEA ban did in the United States banning any transactions from banks to online gambling accounts making not just illegal but nearly impossible to gamble online.
