European Poker Awards Honors Annette Obrestad
The European Poker Awards took place this past week in Paris and Annette Obrestad became the youngest player ever to win an award. She won the Tournament Performance of the Year award and beat out fellow nominees Bruno Fitoussi and Carlos Mortensen. Annette was congratulated on her achievement at the World Series of Poker Europe events and was called "phenomenal" by Nic Szeremeta the Poker Europe Chief as he presented her award.
Annette was also nominated for the Leading Lady award and the Rookie of the Year award. She almost won the Leading Lady award but was beaten by Katja Thater. Annette is only nineteen years old and considered a prodigy. She is signed to Betfair after she won the WSOPE and took home $2 million prize.
A short time later she finished in second place at a European Poker Tour event just barely missing the win. Annette's comments on the award: "I am so happy to win this award. I prefer this one than rookie of the year because I was up against such great players. I am still learning so much. There are still a lot of areas of my live game that can improve. My instincts, my ability to know what certain tells mean. But I am getting better all the time."
The Director of Poker at Betfair, Bruce Slubbs, had this to say about Annette's win: "Congratulations to Annette. She is a pleasure to work with and a special player. She is also possibly one of the most competitive people I have met. In fact I suspect she wanted to win all the awards."
Annette has been blogging for Betfair and in her trip to the awards was filmed and will be shown on her blog. People can log on and get first hand information on her travels and experiences.
