Poker Player Mugged in Melbourne Australia during Aussie Millions
The Aussie Millions 2008 tournament series has seen its share of losses over the past few weeks but nothing compares to what Jason Potter endured this past week. The twenty-two year old American poker player had made his trip to Melbourne to try his luck at the Aussie Millions. He had played quite well during the event and finished in 31st place. He cashed in his chips and decided to head for his hotel but not before grabbing a bite to eat at McDonald's.
Apparently when Potter cashed in his chips he was being watched and followed. As Potter walked back to his room at the Crown Plaza a person holding a knife robbed him of his winning which was in United States and Australian currency. Potter said: "I heard someone running resolutely behind me. As I turned around I just got knocked on the back of the head. I fell down and this guy reached immediately into my hooded pocket."
Potter thinks the robber was most likely watching the poker tournament take place that day. Potter has seen his share of success over the past year. He has made around $300,000 and dropped out of school to pursue his career in poker. He said that he wished he had gotten his winnings in a check and not cash. He said he thought about fighting the assailant but decided no amount of money is worth the risk.
