Poker After Dark to Present Two New Stars This Week
The NBC Poker After Dark series will have two new poker players making their first appearance on the popular show this week. This Monday at 2:05 am David Oppenheim and Gavin Smith will play on the show for their very first time. Oppenheim has about 15 year's professional experience. He is considered by many to be one of the best at Limit high-stakes cash games. He finished in third place at the WPT Borgata Poker Open in 2003 and third in a WSOP event. Smith is an aggressive player and a self-proclaimed wild card. He has a WPT win and has accumulated over $3.7 million in cashes from tournaments.
A statement was recently released from the show about the new players, but golf, rather than poker seemed to be on their minds. "This week's match at NBC's Poker After Dark is sure to capture the attention of poker fans everywhere, but maybe even more so to those who also enjoy a day on the links whether they are a scratch golfer or a perennial hacker," said the press release. "The banter at the table is largely golf-oriented, and the stories the players relate are amusing and entertaining.
The prize for the winner of the match is $120,000. The two men will be joined on Poker After Dark with Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, and Erick Lindgren. Ivey has won the title twice and Negreanu and Brunson have a win a piece. The show will run throughout the week at 2:05 am and can be seen in repeat after Saturday Night Live on Saturday nights.
