It's over in Barcelona, and the first event on the European Poker Tour (EPT) has a winner. Making headlines, the former chess and backgammon champion, Sander Lylloff took the title, after a heads up competition with his roommate.

Lylloff, 25, left the tournament with the 1,170,700 Euro first prize, once he defeated his good friend Mark Teltscher. The heads-up duel was brought to an end when Lylloff moved all-in with Jack/Ten, to be called by Teltscher who had a pair of Kings. When the turn card was dealt, Lylloff had a set of Jacks, and with a dead card from the River, the title was heading home to Denmark.

Teltscher, 27, won the London EPT in 2005 revealed he was disappointed not to be the first player to win two EPT titles. Although he was happy it was his friend, he was quoted as saying "It would have been great to win, but if it had to be anyone else, I'm glad it was Sander."

The fourth tour of the EPT began with 543 players for the 5 day event, with a prize pool of more than 4 million Euro. Many of the big names made their appearance, some were Liz Lieu, Daniel Negreanu, Humberto Brenes, who busted early in the tournament, and Isabelle Mercier, all seeking the first title on this year circuit. None of whom made the final table.

The next stop for the EPT is London from September 25th through 29th, with another popular event hitting the UK, the draw will be astounding as it has been for all the tournaments thus far in London. Following the EPT London event, will be the Baden Classic which begins in early October.

John Duthie boasted "Season 4 has got off to a great start. With an increased buy in this year for most events, we are going to be seeing far bigger prize pools and several new events have been added to the schedule." the founder of the European Poker Tour has been speaking out about the positive levels of growth being seen in the tournament, since the inception of this season. With the addition of the new stops in the event this year, it is something to watch as they move through the events and prepare for next season.
