APAT Irish Amateur Poker Championships Won by Brian Yates
This past weekend the Fitzwilliam Club in Dublin hosted the Amateur Poker Association and Tour (APAT) Irish Amateur Poker Championships. One hundred and forty four players competed and it was Brian Yates who outlasted the competition to take the first place win.
The buy-in for the event was £75 and players were given a starting chip stack of 10,000 players began competing in the slow structure event. However the tournament went by pretty fast as many of the one hundred and forty four players competing began to exit early.
By day two only twenty nine players remained with both UK and Irish players coming back for the final. Returning champ, Steve Redfern, almost made it to the final table but busted out on the bubble. When it finally got down to heads up play between Yates and Brian Murphy, Yates held a chip lead of six to one.
Because of the huge chip lead, heads up play would not last long. The final hand saw both going all in with Yates holding K-J and Murphy holding A-8. Yates flopped two pair and it was enough to knock out Murphy out of the competition and take the first place win.
Yates earned 3400 Euros for the win as well as a seat to a GUKPT event. He also received a Championship trophy for his efforts.
