James Mutchler Made His Final Table Win
James Mutchler was the Heartland Poker Tour Player of the Year in 2007 but so far this year he hadn't scored a win on the tour but, all that changed on Sunday. Mutchler had made three final table events on the Heartland Poker Tour last year to get him the Player of the Year title but none of the three appearances got him a win.
He started playing the tournament trail last weekend and headed for Gary, Indiana to play in the HPT event at the Majestic Star Casino and this time he won it. "This is so awesome," said Mutchler in an HPT article. "I finally got the monkey off my back."
He got his win by outlasting 311 players but his hard work was worth it as his portion of the $603,100 prize pool was $180,000 dollars. Judi Blair worked her way back from having the shortest stack to take second place for $90,015 dollars. Nicholas Woolworth took home third place and $54,009 dollars followed by Jeff Boehm in fourth place with a $42,007 dollar win.
Mutchler not only won the tournament but shot his way up to the top of the Heartland Poker Tour's Player of the Year leader board which now gives him a good chance at the title again to win it two years in a row. The next event on the HPT will be at the Island Resort Casino in Harris Michigan from May 5th through the 11th.
