It was announced yesterday that beginning in 2008, VEGA PROMOTIONAL SYSTEMS, INC will be launching a Latin American Poker Tour. The tour would take place in eight different Latin American countries. These countries include Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
The VEGA company is looking to have professional poker players host the events. They are currently in negotiations with different players. The tournaments will be filmed by VEGA and then aired throughout Latin America.
Players all over the world will be able to participate in the tournaments and they will be able to win seats online and during live local satellites. The 2008 season will end with a Tournament of Champions and the best Latin American player will be crowned.
"This is a very exciting announcement. No Limit, Texas Holdem' has really taken off in Latin America and we felt the time was right for this type of tour. We've all seen the success that other tours like the World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour have enjoyed and we feel that by utilizing our existing contacts in Latin America, we can produce a first class tournament that players from all over the world not just from Latin America, will want to participate in. Unlike a lot of poker programming you see on television, we are not attempting to sell the rights to a programmer, we will own the programming and will contract for the necessary time slots to air the one-hour shows. This will allow Vega to profit from the advertising, sponsorships, and replays for the programs." stated Michael Herron the CEO of VEGA.
