WPT Spanish Championship Winner Marcus Lehmann
The final table at the WPT Spanish Championship held six diverse players from six different countries. Three-time WPT champion Gus Hansen was hoping to make this tournament his fourth WPT win but was unable to come out on top. With players from Russia, Sweden, Korea, France, Austria and Denmark it was truly an international affair.
All six men were seated and introduced and then offered a gift of champagne before play began. The first hand quickly moved to all in play by Lacay with A-A and Johansson called with A-Q. The flop came 10-8-8 and the turn and river were Q and 6. Lacey won the hand and went ahead of Johansson in standings.
Poleschchuk was the first player eliminated when he moved all in with K-9 and Sung called him with A-2. The board came 5-3-2-10-A giving Sung two pair and sending Poleschchuk home in 6th place. After that there were some technical difficulties so play had to wait until they could fix the problem.
The next three players to go were Gus Hanson, Steve Sung, and Christer Johansson in that order. That left Ludovic Lacay and Markus Lehmann in heads-up play. When this began it did not last very long. During the final hand Lehmann raised, Lacay reraised, and Lehmann called him. Lehmann had K-8 and Lacay had A-5. The board came 8-5-3-3-4 giving Lehmann the win with the higher pair. Lehmann took home a trophy, the title and 554,897 Euros. He also will receive an entry into the $25,000 WPT Championship event at the Bellagio hotel.
