WSOP Event No. 29 Winner John Phan
Event No. 29 of the World Series of Poker was a $3,000 buyin No Limit Texas Hold'em tournament that started on June 15th and finished up on june 17th. A total of 716 players competed in the event making a prize pool of $1,976,160 dollars of which the top 72 finishers would collect. The final table played out at the same time as Event 30 was playing on the main stage so this one played out at the secondary final table.
The winner of Event No. 29 was John Phan a 33 year old professional poker player that lives in Stockton, California. He won $434,789 dollars plus his first WSOP gold bracelet for his first place finish. This was his third attempt at a first place win after taking second place in WSOP events in 2006 and 2007.
After the tournament Phan explained his decision to "gamble" for the gold bracelet by moving all in dark on three hands by saying, “What can I say? I love to gamble. To me, gambling is what it’s all about.”
This reminds me of another player I played against several times he would seriously raise up a hand or go all in and when the table would look at him to guess what he was holding he would say "We're Gamblin Baby", and sometimes he had the hand and sometimes not but that's what made him fun to play against.
