Suspects Arrested for Aussie Millions Robbery
About two weeks ago it was reported that Jason Potter was robbed after cashing out at the Aussie Millions. The twenty two year old had placed 31st place and earned over $31,000. Jason cashed out his winnings into American and Australian notes and went to his hotel room. He then left his room, with his money, and headed to McDonalds. After eating his burger, Jason headed back to his room where he was assaulted and robbed. It was 4:30 in the morning and the attackers held knives and Jason handed over the money.
This week two men who are believed responsible for the attack have been arrested. The two men are Dwayne Johnstone age 32 and Vhyham Arumughasamy age 26. Johnstone is being charged with five charges which include: assault, drug possession and armed robbery. Arumughasamyl has been charged with one count of robbery.
The two will go to trial in Melbourne at the Magistrates Court this March. Neither man has filed for bond. The two men were subject to search warrants that were applied on Thursday of last week and the two were arrested the next day. Hopefully this will send a message to those who might be thinking of robbing players who cash out at poker events and tournaments. A good tip to remember is if you do cash out, get your winnings in a check form or leave them in your hotel room. Jason will be the first to tell you that's what he should have done.
