Bill in Florida Made it Through one Committee
People in the US are trying to make poker an acceptable game and some people are trying to get legislature passed so that poker can be played in more states and eventually to make it legal to play poker online again.
There is a bill in Florida that would extend the hours of operations in cardsrooms and it would also them to hold large buy in poker tournaments. The bill has made it's way through a subcommittee but it still has a long way to go before it can be voted on by state senators.
If the bill gets passed it would allow cardsrooms in all venues to stay open for 18 hours a day on weekdays and 24 hours a day on weekends. The bill would also allow any cardroom to hold tournaments that have buy ins up to $10,000 dollars twice a year. The tournaments would be limited to 1,000 entrants. Cardsrooms could also hold charity and celebrity events six times a year.
The bill is being sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Steve Geller and this is his second try, he tried to get a similar bill through committees last year but the bill failed.
The bill was moved on by the Senate Regulated Industries Committee by a vote of 8 to 2 and it will now have to make it through two more committees before it can go up for a vote.
