Marc Couper Went from Microchips to Pokerchips
Marc Couper has won his biggest gamble ever, he quit his IT job to become a poke player and ended up winning £60,000 in the six months since he quit. He gave up microchips for chips of another sort after he realized that he could double his annual salary as a computer software developer.
He took up playing poker two years ago as a hobby and now is playing professionally taking £125 an hour from his new poker career. He now competes against players from around the world on line from his home in Brighton, Sussex.
Marc has this to say, "It started out as a bit of fun but I have honed my own style of play. My family and girlfriend were very sceptical at first but now they are fully behind me. I am only playing about 20 hours a week but that is enough to win big in a few tournaments. My secret is that I am an aggressive player. I am not a gambler by nature. I only bet when I think I have got an edge - and I have in poker."
His biggest win so far was £15,000 that he won in a tournament run at Betfair Poker in January. He is also qualified to play at the Asian Poker Tour 500 event in Macau, Hong Kong next month where he will be competing for the top prize of £750,000.
Marc is known online as "Bluff Daddy" and he said that, "My aim is to win a World Series bracelet. My worst month was losing £2500 but I very rarely do not break even. I spent 10 years in software development so if it ever goes wrong, I can go back to my career."
His girlfriend Kelly King, 20, said: "I was a bit sceptical when he started but he is doing really well out of it."
