Aussie Millions Main Event Winner: Alexander Kostritsyn
The Aussie Millions was a dream come true for Alexander Kostritsyn, a young poker player from Russia. Alexander came to the Crown Casino in Melbourne to try his luck at the top prize and succeeded. He took down a number of players on his way to the top and even beat out Erik Seidel in heads-up play.
There were seven players at the final table on the final day. Peter Mobbs was the first player eliminated when Alexander forced him to go all in with his A-J against Alexander's A-K. Both ended up with a high pair but Alexander's pair was better sending Mobbs home in seventh place. Alexander eliminated the next player Antonio Casale with pocket aces. He would also eliminate Nino Marotta in fifth place, slowly knocking out each player one by one.
Fourth place would go to Peter Ling who went all-in with A-5. He was called by Chrisanthopoulos who had A-K. The flop came A-K-10 and Ling received no help on the turn or river so he was out in fourth. Chrisanthopoulos would go out in third leaving Alexander and Seidel in heads-up play.
Alexander came into heads-up play in the chip lead with over 9 million in chips against a little over 5 million of Seidel's. Heads-up play would continue for around two hours until Alexander would check raise with J-9 and Seidel would go all in with A-Q. The flop came J-8-7 with a turn of 3 and river a K. Seidel received no help so the 8 time WSOP bracelet winner would have to settle for second place. Alexander would take home a prize of $1.6 million and the bragging rights.
