New England College World Series of Poker Championships
The last two surviving players in the New England College World Series of Poker championships that were held on Sunday at Rockingham Park were Boston College student Patrick O'Donnell and University of Southern New Hampshire senior Henry Holst, both 22.
The two were playing heads up and Holst went all in on the final deal, O'Donnell called his bet, and nearly six hours of Texas Hold'em was played in the racetracks poker room. O'Donnel flipped over his cards revealing Ace Queen.
Holst then showed that he was holding Ace King showing he had the better cards. An exciting hand was then dealt as the flop revealed Queen, Jack and Four.
The turn and river produced an eight and yet another Queen making O'Donnell the winner and put an end to a long afternoon of betting strategy, bluffs and the usual poker banter.
O'Donnel who is a finance major from North Andover that plays online poker about 60 to 80 a week walked away with the grand prize of $1,450 while Holst got $790.
When asked about his plans on celebrating his win O'Donnell said that he was exhausted and was going to go home and sleep. Later on after he is well rested he is going to go buy some new furniture to fill a condo that he recently purchased.
