WSOP Event No. 51 Winner James Schaaf

Event No. 51 of the World Series of Poker was a $1,500 buyin H.O.R.S.E tournament that began on June 29th and finished with a winner on July 1st.  There were a total of 803 players that competed in the event that created a total prize pool of $1,096,095 dollars.

This was to believed to be the largest ever major live H.O.R.S.E. tournament in history and the top 80 finishers in the tournament would cash.  H.O.R.S.E. has grown to be very popular since it combines the five favorite poker games that are played in most poker rooms.

H.O.R.S.E. is made up of Texas Hold'em, Omaha High-Low Split, Razz, Seven-Card Stud, and Seven-Card Stud High-Low Split (also called Eight-or-Better).  All of the games are rotated throughout the event with eight hands being played at a time so players have to be well skilled in all of the games in order to win the event.

Event No. 51 was the third of three H.O.R.S.E. tournaments on the 2008 World Series of Poker schedule.  The largest of them was the $50,000 dollar buy in World Championship event that was won by Scotty Nguyen.  The winner of Event No. 51 was James Schaaf, a 36 year old software engineer from Torrance, California.
